I recently acquired a pair of the Lii Song Ting tweeters There have been several owners of the Lii Song F-15 drivers who have offered the opinion that they would like to have a little more high frequency extension, since the F-15s roll off pretty quickly above 15K. To be quite honest, I was prepared to hate these tweeters, based on my experience with some horn loaded tweeters in the past. With many of them, I felt that a hole was being bored in my forehead and listener fatigue set in pretty quickly. Much to my surprise, the Ting tweeters are very "civilized". For a fact, they add quite a bit of frequency extension to the F-15 drivers at the top end, but are not "shouty" or "spitty" sounding. In fact, they add an amazing amount of "air" to the music and are quite revealing (and accurate) when reproducing high frequency percussion instruments such as cymbals, bells, chimes, etc. In addition, they reveal the upper harmonics of female vocals and a variety of "midrange" musical instruments such as acoustic guitar. Lii Song asked me to come up with a couple of possible options for using the Tings with my low profile open baffles. So ..... here are a couple of ideas in addition to a solution sent to me by a customer who already owns a pair of the Tings and my baffles. This option fires the Tings at the room ceiling and works very well to add some "air" to the music. ![]() This option is a more conventional approach with the Tings firing toward the listening seat One advantage of this option is that the Tings can be turned 90 degrees to fire at the side walls of the room It creates a "mellower" sound while still adding high frequency detail and air to the music. Lii Song offers some nice bookshelf speaker stands that will work well for this purpose and there are some very inexpensive speaker stands avialable on Amazon and eBay. ![]() This is the solution provided by one of my customers. A small shelf and a couple of angle brackets is a great option. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Tings come with a simple crossover that has a fixed crossover point with three options for the level of volume attenuation. It takes about five minutes and a drop of solder to select the desired volume attenuation. ![]() If you own a pair of loudspeakers using the F-15 drivers and would like to hear what is happening in a recording above 15K or so, I can highly recommend the Ting tweeters as a good sounding and musical solution. BTW ..... the Tings are very heavy and built like a "brick outhouse". The magnets are so powerful that the screwdriver was pulled out of my hand when mounting them. This is a serious driver.
